Exotic Car Rentals and the P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center

New York's cultural life is one of its defining characteristics. Whether you are a first-time visitor or you frequent the city a lot, you can't complete the New York rental experience without visiting some of its world-renown spots. One of these must-see destinations includes the P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center! P.S.1Contemporary Art Center, an affiliate of The Museum of Modern Art, is the oldest and second largest non-profit arts center in the United States solely devoted to contemporary art. With a combination of a world-class exhibition program, a prestigious National and International Artist Studio Program, and a broad range of education and public programs, P.S. 1 has something that caters to all audiences!

P.S.1 was founded in 1971 by Alanna Heiss as The Institute of Art and Urban Resources Inc., and was primarily dedicated to the transformation of abandoned and underutilized buildings in New York City into exhibition, performance, and studio spaces for artists. Today, P.S.1 operates two internationally acclaimed spaces for contemporary art: P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center in Long Island City and the Clocktower Gallery in Lower Manhattan, both of which contain museum- quality galleries and extensive studio facilities. Be sure to visit both during your exotic car rental travels.

Notable Works

Since the doors opened in 1971, P.S.1 has hosted works of major artists such as Janet Cardiff, Robert Grosvenor, David Hammons, Hilma af Klimt, Donald Lipski, John McCraken, Dennis Oppenheim, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Alan Saret, Katharina Sieverding, Keith Sonnier, Michael Tracy, John Wesley (artist), and Franz West. Many exhibitions organized by P.S.1 travel to museums in the United States and abroad.

However, there are also many long-term exhibitions as well, so no matter when your exotic car rental schedule has you visiting you can be sure that there is always something to check out year-round! Some of these include works from artists such as Richard Serra, James Turrell, Pipilloti Rist and William Kentridge.

Warm Up!

If your exotic car rental trip has you visiting during July or August, then you are in for a treat! Since 1997, P.S. 1 has been host to a summer-long dance party called Warm Up. This party lets New Yorkers beat the heat every Saturday afternoon in July and August, by rocking out in Long Island City. The dance party in the museum's courtyard is a highlight of the New York summer. Every summer the music line-up is mixed-up fun, and every year a new architect designs a giant installation -- or patio furniture -- for courtyard playing.
Hundreds attend each Saturday, and thousands of New Yorkers and out-of-towners come to Long Island City for this critically acclaimed summer party! The music, architecture and exhibition program provide a unique multi-sensory experience for music fans, artists, and families alike. So don't miss out on this great opportunity!

Getting to P.S. 1

To get to P.S 1 from Manhattan take the Midtown Tunnel at 34th Street. Get off at the 21st St./Van Alst exit (first exit after the toll booths). Go through two stoplights. P.S.1 will be on your right, across the street from the post office. The entrance to P.S.1 is on Jackson Avenue. Or, take the Queensboro Bridge at 59th Street, and use the lower roadway. When you get off the bridge, take the Queens Boulevard service lane (it is all the way to the right). Turn right onto Jackson Avenue and follow it to 46th Avenue. The main entrance of P.S.1 will be to the right.

Taking your exotic car rental From Brooklyn to P.S. 1, take the BQE North to the McGuinness Avenue exit. Once you have exited, veer to the left. Follow McGuinness Avenue over the Pulaski Bridge. At the bottom of the bridge, make a right onto Jackson Avenue. Continue on Jackson Avenue for three blocks and P.S.1 will appear on your left, at the intersection of Jackson Avenue and 46th Street.

Once you have arrived, park your exotic car rental and get ready to enjoy a piece of New York's contemporary art!
