The HMMWV
Designed by the South Bend, Indiana auto group AMG, the original Hummer was and instant military hit, providing soldiers with the ultimate all-terrain off-road vehicle. Making the Leap from Military Vehicle to Civilian Supercar
American citizens were first introduced to the Humvee vehicle when Operation Desert Storm rolled into high gear during the early 1990's; practically every television in North America featured daily snapshots of these vehicles in action, drawing immense interest from the general public. One such interested civilian happened to be legendary movie star and current California Governor Arnold Swarzenegger, who immediately asked AMG to build him a spin-off civilian version of the vehicle, instituting a Corvette V8 engine in place of the GM design.
